Service Description

When we talk about premier birding lodges in Costa Rica, Rancho Naturalista will immediately take place in the conversation... is known as one of the finest birdwatching lodges in Central America. But why is that? Have you ever been there? Would you like to ask the resident bird guide about it? Would you like to see it with your own eyes? what about spending the first hour of the day at their famous balcony from home? Well, this Live Virtual Tour is offering this and more. Several species of hummingbirds, as well as many other birds, can be seen right from the spacious balcony where you also have a great view of the distant smoking Turrialba volcano. It’s a wonderful live online adventure for birders, photographers, and naturalists who either are planning to visit when the pandemic is over or that have already been happy in there and want to bring memories back to life again. Here your host Mercedes (aka Meche, a young and super talented birder) and on some occasions Lisa (Rancho Naturalista owner) will broadcast live from their famous balcony overlooking the bird feeding stations. The hummingbird feeders are renowned for attracting many species like Crowned Woodnymph, White-necked Jacobin, Green Hermit, Green Thorntail, Violet Sabrewing and Bronze-tailed Plumeleteer. Meche's expertise will narrate each species as they show up, Scarlet-rumped Tanager, Blue-gray Tanager, Collared Aracari, Buff-throated Saltator, Gray-headed Chachalaca and many more might be there for your enjoyment. All 100% live with all the surprises that only a Live session can produce. But overall the most real and authentic impression of this stunning place. Meche's sharp eye will try to located the regular specialties as well like the star of the hotel, the tiny and tricky Snowcap that visits the Verbena Hedges along with outside chances of the Black-crested Coquette as well... and with some luck even the stunning Lovely Cotinga can be possible from this deck as they have been seen occasionally in the last few months. All of the income of this tour will go directly to support the local guide but also a part will support Meche's initiative "Niños y Aves" (Children and Birds) that sponsors free birdwatching workshops for children in rural schools locally. Feel free to ask Meche more about this non-profit initiative and the ways you can support it. The learning opportunities in this tour will be endless.
